Helping you Choose the Right Trailer Tent

Trailer tents are an excellent way for you to get closer to nature. Spending time in the great outdoors offers you the chance to really relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Trailer tents are the happy medium that balances comfortable sleeping with convenient travel. They’re the ideal investment if a caravan seems like a step too far and our team at Bicester Comanche are here to help you find the perfect choice for your needs.

Every customer we work with has different needs and interests for their trailer tents. The right trailer tent for one customer won’t serve the needs of others and when you’re spending that much money, it’s important to find something that meets your travel needs. So, how do you find the right trailer tent? What is the best choice?

In this post, we want to help you narrow down your decision making. Whether you’re looking at buying your trailer tent brand new or you’re buying it second hand, this guide will help you find that ideal folding camper.

Make Sure you Try Before you Buy

If there is one piece of advice that we could offer you for purchasing a trailer tent it is that you should never make a purchase without having fully inspected and tried the trailer out. This is imperative if you’re making a second hand purchase but even if you’re buying brand new, it’s important to know exactly what you’re getting for your money.

This is why we invite all of our buyers to our showroom to really experience their trailer tent before they make their purchase. You can see the trailer tent when it’s all folded up and when it’s fully erect, so you can see everything. For brand new trailer tents, you’ll want to check that the layout and size of the tent will suit your needs and that it’s easy enough to put up and take down. And for second hand trailers, you’ll want to check for any wear and tear that might escalate in the future and any problems that will be expensive to repair.

Ensure it Has Breaks

Whilst this might sound slightly strange, not every trailer tent has breaks attached to them. Only trailers that have a maximum weight of more than 750kg are required to have breaks by law, which is only a portion of the trailers that are available.

While we would recommend always choosing a trailer tent that has breaks on it for safety reasons, this is a decision that you’ll want to make before you start shopping around.

If you’re unsure about the legalities related to having breaks on your trailer then, then you can always speak to our team about it. They would be happy to answer any questions you may have and point you in the direction of the right trailer based on your needs.

How Much Storage Space Does it Have?

While trailer tents are an excellent way for you to comfortably enjoy the great outdoors, you’re not going to be outdoors all of the time. Where are you going to keep your tent when not in use? How much space do you actually have? What size of trailer tent will fit in your storage space?

There are all questions to bear in mind before you make your purchase as it will determine the size of tent that you choose. Don’t forget when you’re making the decision that you can always store your trailer on its side, so it may well slide into smaller places than you might expect. We’d still recommend measuring your space before you make any big decisions.

What Else is Included?

Knowing what you want included in your trailer tent will help to narrow down your list of choices. Some trailer tents have things like kitchens as standards, others include much more. We’d recommend making a list of your must-haves, so you can be sure that your trailer tent has everything you need. Though it’s important that, when you’re making this list, you don’t add too much. Making your trailer tent too heavy will only result in overloading your towing ability and you won't be able to drive it.

Often customers prioritise items and appliances that they might actually find they already have provided to them at their campsite, like sinks for washing up and showers. It’s important for you to really think about whether or not each appliance is really something you need. This way you’ll be able to have everything you need without overloading your towing capacity.

Have Any Further Questions?

If you know what sort of trailer tent you’re interested in purchasing and you’d like to take a look around our showroom, then we’d recommend calling ahead. Giving us a call will guarantee that you’ll be able to see the trailer tent you’re actually interested in, we can make sure your preferred trailer tent is available in our showroom.
